Hi,
Our 485 is pending for quite some time with no updates even though we recently went for our FP. Earlier we used to see an update when we log into our account on USCIS.
I would like to meet with Congressman/Senator to find my case status and give it a push. My objective is to get an exact status of my case and why its delayed and also to find the name check status.
Could anyone please suggest how to go about this i have never met with lawmakers before. How should i book an appointment and what should i say it is for? What information they would need from me to pursue my request?
Btw i live in Northern Virginia .. who should i visit ?
Would i be meeting with lawmaker or only with their staff?
Do i have to take the USCIS and FBI contact info for them to call? Mine is pending in NSC.
Appreciate any guidance in this regard from people who has gone thru this path before. I hope contacting Congressman wouldn't have a negative effect on my case.

2) Is it possible to allow minimum RECURRING contributions like $10?
When I am talking to my friends, we felt that the above things increase the
Contributions. We are also thinking that it is easy to ask friends to contribute if there are no limits on the contributions.
If I am correct there are more than 25,000 Members. If there are 10% of active members and each contribute $10 we get another $25000 that is required for the Bill.
My Contributions:
$50 Recurring Contributions from Nov 07.
Contributed $100 for the DC Rally.
$25 to the local Northern California Chapter in Oct 07.
Contributed to AILF $100 during the July visa bulletin time.

But if you ever want anyone to take "Immigration Voice" seriously.............STOP cursing in these forums. IV is paying thousands of dollars for lobbying and trying to bring change. We have helped thousands of people with answers (and that includes me) but using such language in the forums undermines everything we stand for.

During my 2nd H1B stamping, I also faced the same situation in New Delhi consulate. I got 221g and the visa officer told me that my application need some adminstrative approval from DC and it will take 3-4 weeks. Those 4 weeks were painful. My whole vacation was runied. Anyway after 4 weeks I got a call from the Embassy and got stamped next day.
But one of friend faced the same problem in New Delhi last year. For him, it took 6 months to get the name check done....So be prepared man...I am so sorry that you have to go through this...I can feel the pain...Now I am really scared to go for my next stamping as my visa has expired and I missed the July bus ....so I do not habe AP...:(((

Is paystub needed When a person is on H1B and is out of project when AOS on 485.
I'm also in similar situation - my current project will also end by Mar 30th and its tough getting a new Project outside since my employer wants to make big money out of me (they keep fat margins) .... My H is valid till Sep 10 but it doesn't matter as soon as the current employer cancels it or asks u to go out of the country.
Do a H transfer immediately with some other company so that u remain in status...
Then file GC with that new company. GC can't be filed on your own - The PERM Labor and I-140 must need a employer and the 3rd stage I-485,EAD,AP you can file on your own.

BTW, I got labor approved on 3/1/2010, 140 on 3/25 and 485 approved on 5/5.
A slightly off topic - but how did you know that your 485 was approved ?
Can you tell us in detail how you got this information about your case ? I want to know if mine is approved or not.

From view source it is difficult to find whether it is manually or automatically updated. But from this site it is easier to identify becos the person who updated this did leave a mark. The previous image is commented out and the new one is inserted. So this is manual update. Everymonth someone will go to this page and update it.

My colleague was in similar situation. He went to Canada for H1 Visa stamping and while returning, the oficer at the border said I94 on the 797 is sufficient. Our lawer (Fragomen) adviced him to enter border crossing as last port of entry.

The idea of buying a used camera is based on the fact that once you have played a bit with "your own camera" you have a much better idea of what you like and dislike about particular features. If you spend a lot of money (most of what you can afford) then you don't have any spare for "improving on what you got". If you get something similar but a lot less expensive, in the "bargain basement", then you know what it's like, and you can get the "new model" when you have saved a little more money.
Mark's (Swartzphotography) suggestion is another good one - most digital SLR's are never "used up" - there isn't much that can really go wrong, as it's 99.9% electronics, and that's either completely broken [immediately obvious] or it's working right. Aside from ones that look like they have been used by a pro for a long time [look for big scratches, scrapes and worn off paint on the corners], it should be fine to buy a used one. For example a Canon EOS Digital Rebel or Canon EOS 10D, or Nikon D70.

What I understand from this is that USCIS has completed the data entry for the dates given and issue the receipts (essentially means, receipt date has been marked against your application in the database) but the receipt will take another 14 days to reach.
So guys keep patience as USCIS is going to give us update every week now...mentioned in the news letter.

i am also in the same situ.
my lawyer asked me & my wife to sign a document before he proceeds. I was supposed to sign it today. but i am scarred.
the other thing is if uscis rejects it, i have to pay my lawyer add'l $250 for re-filing.
i just spent $650 for medicals taking time off..
not worth...
i am getting frustrated... and can t control....

I actually did chose the safe option and was approved for the O-1 for 3-years. Hopefully during that time something will happen to help me in the future (like a University Teaching position, or at least proving additionally valuable to the US, etc.)
